MY OWN HEART’S SONG

There is a way to know
That I am healthy and strong:
It’s when I check inside
To hear my own heart’s song.

A constant melody
That is played both day and night;
With some variations
And shades of soft and bright.

Music with a story
With all that life brings to me;
The things light and funny,
Or taken seriously.

The times I get concerned
And know I’m about to fall
Are when I check inside
To find no song at all.

Play on, oh heart of mine,
Share songs both joyful and sad.
When I hear you singing,
I know life’s not so bad.

I will always listen
To your music, dearest friend.
You always tell the truth;
On you I can depend.

A LIFETIME

When you discover
The journey isn’t over,
Take heart:
It’s meant to last a lifetime.

Shortcuts might seem nice,
However, there’s such a price;
Don’t pay;
You really have a lifetime.

When it seems so long;
You feel far more weak than strong;
Move on;
Your strength will last a lifetime.

When you finally see
The whole point is the journey;
Rejoice:
It is yours for a lifetime.

MY ON-GOING SONG

Illusion or knowing;
Artificial or real?
Clarity unfolding
Till I understand what I feel.

Disclosing, yet clouded;
Hidden, yet in plain view;
Perceptions blend and fade
Till I struggle to know what’s true.

Sometimes trash, yet treasure
A favor in disguise;
All things work together
Till I am mature and more wise.

Journey never ending;
Discovery goes on,
Things old, yet never known
Are parts in my on-going song.

HOW WILL YOU

How will you build tomorrow,
Knowing what you do today?
How will you find new direction
That sends you more happily on your way?

How will you forgive the past,
Setting you free to move on?
How do you let go of old hurts
So that you’re able to sing a new song?

How do you befriend yourself,
Accepting all that you are?
How can you push beyond limits,
Until you’re reaching for the farthest star?

Such a riddle and puzzle,
Needing the very best clue;
Its answer is simple yet deep:
Such full living begins and ends with you.

NEW TRUTH

When I was a child,
I learned many things;
Some of them were helpful,
The sort that growing brings.
Then there were the others:
“Truth” that seemd to work back then;
The lessons that needed to change
If misery was to end.

“My own needs don’t count;
Don’t think, talk or feel.”
Are rules that had to go
So I’d be free to heal.
That I am a person;
Truth of real humanity;
Whole and acceptable as one
Who is learning how to be.

Living is a process
Of learning, growth and change;
It’s part of how we’re made;
It really isn’t strange.
As you search for new truth,
Choose paths of discovery
May you encounter in yourself
The strength of recovery.

CLOUDS

4bec5e26104877070487ee78727903fa

Dark with sorrow;
Turbulent and cold;
Torn apart by winds
Of painful memories old.

Teardrops falling
In bittersweet pain;
Wounds are cleansed and healed;
We start to live again.

Lighter feelings
Come on breezes fair;
Bringing in fresh hope
And treasures we can share.

Sorrows melting;
Giving way to light;
Souls wake from slumber
To warmth and feelings bright.

Storms come and go;
They’re not meant to stay;
Like clouds in sunshine,
May old hurts melt away.
